Formula for Placing the Monthly Hexagram Body
With a yin Self, begin at the Wu month;
with a yang Self, begin from the Zi month.
To recognize the meaning within the hexagram,
count from the first line up to Self: then it is true.
The Hexagram Body line governs the matter asked about. Without a Hexagram Body, the affair has no thread to follow. If the Hexagram Body is injured, the affair will be difficult to complete.
Verse on Threefold Combinations Forming Configurations
Shen-Zi-Chen combine into a Water configuration.
Si-You-Chou combine into a Metal configuration.
Yin-Wu-Xu combine into a Fire configuration.
Hai-Mao-Wei combine into a Wood configuration.
Palm Formula for the Birth Stage
Birth; Bathing; Cap and Belt; Approaching Office; Imperial Peak; Decline; Illness; Death; Tomb; Extinction; Embryo; Nourishment.
Reading note: Cap and Belt renders the stage written 官带 here; its supplied graphic is not changed.
For example, Fire has its Birth stage at Yin. Begin at Yin and proceed forward: Bathing at Mao, Cap and Belt at Chen, and continue forward in order.
Wood Is Born at Hai
Wood has its Birth stage at Hai. Begin at Hai. Infer the rest by analogy.
