Graves and Burial
The principles of burial were established by the ancient kings. Though burial sends off the dead, the causes attributed to feng shui arose especially in later generations.
Good and ill, blessing and calamity are closely involved: grave divination concerns three generations, and the burial site has a designated line.
First-generation and second-generation hexagrams produce descendants distinguished as princes, generals or ministers. Self at the fourth or third governs flourishing wealth and honor in later generations.
No heir remains because Self is at the fifth or sixth. Going abroad as a merchant comes from Self in Wandering Soul.
Eight Pure is an ominous sign; Returning Soul is likewise judged unfavorable. Generation and combination are favorable signs; control and clash are unfavorable signs.
The site rides the dragon ridge, and the dragon ridge enters the site: the site is proper and the ridge genuine. Mountains carry water and water connects the mountains; mountains encircle and water embraces.
Reading note: Dragon ridge names the landscape image here, distinct from the named Green Dragon influence. The supplied 嫡 is rendered as proper within the paired true/proper clause.
Crossing or heavy with strong qi hears chickens crow and dogs bark. Self and Response supporting the burial line gives the form of a crouching Tiger and coiling Dragon.
Threefold combination together with Six Combinations gathers qi and shelters wind. The approaching mountain turns into the facing mountain, looking back toward its ancestral ridge.
Ghost at Death or Extinction means an abandoned grave nearby. A line at Birth means a burial site prepared within for later use.
The place of combination separated from Response means inner and outer face differently. Self or the day clashing open the site means left and right burial sites are opposed.
The burial passage obtains the mountain’s correct form when it again receives generation from its original image. Self and Response holding the mountain-and-water passes should have a favorable combination.
The sitting mountain has qi, but fears the site meeting an empty, abandoned line. The natal allotment receives generation, but avoids its period entering penalty or injury.
Green Dragon swings its tail where Descendants meets stagnant qi. White Tiger raises its head where Parents at the site generates Body.
The dragon ridge behind has qi not yet exhausted: the form of Dark Warrior putting out its tongue. The facing tableland in front has a moving line meeting Clash: the image of Vermilion Bird’s open mouth.
Self in a Gouchen Earth configuration means pitted fields and gardens. Response at a Dark Warrior Water line means ditches, hollows, ponds and wells.
White Tiger at a position of break and loss means old graves and burial mounds. Soaring Snake at Parents means overlapping properties.
Gouchen Earth Ghost means burial mounds in rows. Dark Warrior Metal Spirit means dripping springs among rocks.
Green Dragon moving at Descendants must mean recent relocation. Vermilion Bird Flying with Officer and Ghost must mean litigation.
Response with Wood and Dark Warrior means a stream bridge in front. The day clashing with Earth under Soaring Snake means a road to the side.
Reading note: The supplied 邊信 road clause is rendered through its roadside context without adding a direction or distance.
Vermilion Bird Fire moving means beside a kitchen yard or cooking place. Green Dragon with Wealth’s Storehouse receiving generation means beside shops or granaries.
Dark Warrior at Self with the dragon ridge entering the site means secret burial. Gouchen Earth moving into Void means a shallow burial against the mountain.
The day combining with a Ghost line that has qi means near a spirit temple or community altar. A moving line with Flowery Canopy in Void means beside a Buddhist pagoda or Daoist palace.
Self and Response press the mountains on either side, oppressing the site where Tiger strikes its head. Crossing and heavy joined to water within the cycle injures Body with ditches and rivers at the feet.
Reading note: The compressed Tiger and cycle-water wording remains within its mountain/water comparison; no new ridge or water direction is supplied.
Repeated generation, with Blessing combining upon the Three Transmissions, means a hundred sons and a thousand grandsons. Repeated Tombs in one line means three graves and four sites.
The spirit does not enter the Tomb when Wandering Soul Ghost meets Void. Ghost has already returned to the mountain when the natal allotment’s line meets combination.
The day carrying Response with Robbery Sha enters the site to rob the mound and open the coffin. Useful joining a moving Self image and controlling Response means intruding on another’s place to make a burial site.
Guest Earth moving and the Tomb line combining means carrying earth to make a mound. A lofty facing mountain but an empty site means a poor peak and a missed burial site.
Descendants empty behind the day means the site lies on open, level ground. Brothers falling between Self and Response means a grave moved to the boundary of two territories.
The day and moving lines breaking site and Tomb must mean burial again. Self and Response together with the site clashing with corpse and coffin calls for reinterment.
Crossing and heavy generating the site means the work took more than one day. Dragon Virtue with Wealth means relocation and building planned for ten thousand years.
Response Flying into the site must mean another person is buried there. A baneful influence moving at the line means an ominous encounter with a lesser ghost.
Offending the Six Voids of Heaven and Earth means the bones are unclear. A site meeting Void with penalty from the Three Transmissions means damage to the corpse.
Clash or control fears offending an ominous spirit. Combination or generation is truly a favorable sign.
Descendants generated by the lines and meeting Officer or Noble Person at the Three Transmissions must become officials. The images and numbers within the site, with both Emolument and Wealth combining, should make a wealthy proprietor.
Wandering Soul with Blessing and Virtue empty and clashed governs drifting away and flight. Evil Ghost and ominous spirits moving and changing show death and violent misfortune.
Wealth and Ghost damaging Parents and Descendants means widowers, widows, orphans and the solitary. Repeated Blades, penalty, Ghost, break, Robbery and Destruction means exhaustion—[one character missing]—and disability.
Reading note: The missing-character notice is present in the supplied source. No replacement character or extra outcome is invented.
Dark Warrior meeting Salty Pool with Robbery Sha means both theft and prostitution. Green Dragon with Flowery Canopy in Void means either Buddhist or Daoist clergy.
The monthly hexagram with Gouchen Earth Ghost means epidemic injury. An ominous Vermilion Bird in a yang palace means frequent fire disaster.
Parents at Descendants’ Extinction qi leaves later heirs solitary and few. Blessing and Virtue at a strong Brothers palace makes an adopted branch flourish.
Movement joining ominous influences within the cycle brings immediate disaster and danger. The site with an Advancing Spirit beneath the day should attain favorable celebration.
Look at what has already taken shape in the past; from what has passed, examine what is yet to come.
The affair and Self and Response mutually accord, revealing Substance and Application within the hexagram. Movement responding to the day reveals good and ill within its lines.
