The General Star is like a general encamping in the central army, so the three harmonies' middle position is called General Star. Canopy of Splendor is like a precious canopy. A star of this form in heaven often covers the Great Emperor's seat, so the three harmonies' bottom position obtaining the Storehouse is called Canopy of Splendor.
The General Star always wants auspicious stars supporting; noble Killings arriving make auspicious celebration. The Song for Ordering Ignorance says: “General Star used with Death Spirit arriving makes a minister who is a pillar of the state.” Auspicious assistance makes it noble. Further flanking Nobility with Storehouse and Tomb pure and unmixed forms the General Abroad and Minister at Court configuration. Canopy and Direct Seal without a flanking Storehouse form the Two Establishments configuration. Storehouse and Tomb with Direct Seal give yuanlang rank or above. Neither Tomb nor Direct Seal, only Canopy, gives emoluments of regular appointment. Canopy and Seal with correctly established Post Horse are named Command Seal, indicating commander's insignia and rank. The year stem's Storehouse sharing the Storehouse gives double blessings and great rank.
Canopy of Splendor in a person's chart often indicates solitude or widowhood. Even rank does not avoid loneliness, and it is judged as Buddhist or Daoist life or the arts. The Song for Ordering Ignorance says: “Though Canopy is auspicious, it also obstructs: perhaps an ill-fated child, perhaps a lonely widow. Replacement wifehood and marriage into another household bring many mouth defects; furnace tongs, wearing a conical hat, and drawing out black and yellow.” It also says: “Canopy's star gives few siblings, the lofty solitary asterism in heaven. Present at birth in hour and conception, it means adoption or birth to a secondary mother.”
Translator's note: The title's Canopy label has a variant graph in the first paragraph. All rank and configuration distinctions are retained. The mouth-defect, furnace-tong, conical-hat, and black/yellow verse images are compressed or unclear; no missing profession or family story is reconstructed.
