Robber, Blade, Noble Days and Patterns

Robber of Wealth
It is also called Reverse Blade, as when Yi sees Jia as Robber of Wealth.
Yi uses Geng as husband; seeing Bing restrain Geng therefore harms the husband. In a man's chart it harms the wife.
The five yang stems meeting the five yin stems form Defeating Wealth, signifying harm to wife and children.
The five yin stems meeting the five yang stems form Robber of Wealth, signifying loss and waste and a need to guard against petty people, but not harm to the wife.
Yi uses Wu and Ji as Wealth: Jia seizes Ji and damages Wu. Ding uses Geng and Xin as Wealth: Bing can seize Xin and break Geng. Other cases follow this pattern.
When the elder brother sees the younger, the younger can defeat the elder's Wealth and take his wife.
When the younger sees the elder, the elder can rob the younger's Wealth but does not dare take his wife.
Wealth is what people desire. Let brothers see it, and contention is common; how many can be like Yi and Qi?
A man's chart with much Robber of Wealth harms the wife; a woman's chart with much Hurting Officer harms the husband. The text calls this the ultimate statement. Its differing wife-harm rules are retained.
Yuanhai Ziping: Symbolic Influences.
Yang Blade is called an ominous star in Heaven and a harmful influence among people. It stands one position before Emolument: Jia's Emolument is at Yin, and Mao is its Yang Blade.
It favors Indirect Officer, Seven Killings and Resource Seal; it dislikes Reverse Chant, Repeated Chant, Kuigang and threefold combination.
Why Yang Blade? The five yang stems Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng and Ren have a Blade; the five yin stems Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin and Gui do not. Hence the name.
Do not immediately call a chart with Blade unfavorable. It generally resembles Seven Killings.
Those with Blade are often wealthy and distinguished; Indirect Wealth and Seven Killings are favored.
'Killings without Blade does not become prominent; Blade without Killings has no authority.' Both together are not found in ordinary charts. Strong self and strong-self cycles are essential. Hurting Officer and flourishing-Blade cycles are unwanted.
If Killings and Blade are originally present and occur again in years or cycles, the disaster is extraordinary.
With Blade but no Killings, years and cycles reaching flourishing Killings instead turn toward life and ample fortune. Hurting Officer with flourishing Wealth, or weak self with flourishing Killings, is especially forbidden.
Example: Gengshen · Jimao · Jiayin · unknown hour. The Jia day sees Mao as Blade and Geng as Seven Killings. Killings originally injures self, but Yi Wood within Mao pairs with it, giving Killings a favorable relation so that it cannot injure self. This is Jia marrying his younger sister Yi to Geng. Strong self in southern cycles therefore brings distinction. The hour remains unspecified in the supplied chart.
Example: Wuwu · Wuwu · Wuwu · Jiayin. Blade and Killings are complete, with Wu Fire also serving as Resource, hence distinction. The chapter on Likes and Dislikes says: 'A Wu day in a Wu month should not be read as Blade. Much Fire in year and hour instead makes Resource Seal.'
Example: Xinyou · Jiawu · Wuwu · Jiayin. Killings and Blade are complete and Resource is present. But Hurting Officer emerges in the year stem. The Xinmao cycle encounters the original Hurting Officer; Ren is Wealth, and a Renchen year brings misfortune and death in water. Ren Water restrains Fire Resource, while Jia Seven Killings sits in the hour: this is generating Killings and damaging Resource. Xin is Hurting Officer; the Xinmao cycle dislikes Officer. Ding Fire within Wu is Resource, and Hurting Officer meeting Wealth is most forbidden because Water generates Wood to restrain self.
Chart attributed here to Yue Fei: Guiwei · Yimao · Jiazi · Jisi. Mao is Blade and Gui Resource. Jisi in the hour is unsuitable because it breaks Resource. In the Xinhai cycle, Hai-Mao-Wei combine and raise Yang Blade. In a Xinyou year, Xin Metal flourishes at You and clashes with Mao Blade; the two Xin make it excessive. Much Metal meeting Jia brings punishment despite distinction. Although Xin provides distinction, Yang Blade is the disliked factor: one combination followed by one clash is impermissible.
Verse:
Do not call Blade in the hour unfavorable;
yet weak self receiving assistance is instead unfavorable, as this verse reads.
Only fear repetition in years and months;
do not make the birth hour an angry palace.
Verse:
Renzi should not meet Wu's palace;
Wu's palace likewise fears Zi's clash.
A Bing day seated on Wu should not see it repeated;
combining with self's palace brings unfavorable affairs.
Verse:
Day Blade resembles Yang Blade;
Officer and Seven Killings are welcome encounters.
If the annual sovereign has no injury or robbery,
punishment and clash in the branches establish military merit.
Verse:
Yang Blade dislikes clash and combination with the annual sovereign;
such a flowing year signifies disaster and obstruction.
If three punishments and Seven Killings meet as well,
the King of the Underworld must send a summons.
Verse:
Yang Blade in the hour welcomes Indirect Officer;
Wealth brings a hundred disasters.
Years and cycles clashing and combining
bring sudden calamity again to the gate.
Verse:
Repeated Yang Blade with combination causes injury;
the person's temperament is proud and forceful.
Heavy punishment and clash bring many disasters;
only control preserves auspicious prosperity.
Verse:
Yang Blade's time fears Officer;
punishment, clash, break and harm bring a thousand troubles.
Flourishing Wealth in a threefold combination is greatly disliked:
severed fingers, injury and an incomplete body.
Verse:
Horse meeting Bing or Wu, Rat meeting Ren,
welcome Officer and Seven Killings.
Punishment and harm are harmless, but clash and defeat are feared;
Wealth territory brings no slight disaster.
Day Blade is the same as Yang Blade. Its days are Wuwu, Bingwu and Renzi, judged by the Yang Blade method. Punishment, clash, break, harm and combinations are disliked. With Seven Killings also received, Officer territory is required to make a distinguished chart. A combination arising among the Four Pillars must signify extraordinary disaster.
The person has large eyes and a long beard, a hard, decisive nature, no compassionate or kindly heart, and an inclination toward harsh exploitation without pity.
With the three punishments, self-punishment and Kuigang complete, advancement comes on the battlefield.
An unfavorable relation or flourishing Wealth signifies harm; first examine whether a rescuing influence exists. If punishment and harm are complete and each kind obtains its proper ground, distinction is indescribable: how could it fail to rise?
For a single Yang Blade discussed through the hour, the Four Pillars should not enter Wealth territory, for fear of clashing with Blade.
Wu's Blade is at Wu and dislikes Zi Direct-Wealth cycles. Ren's Blade is at Zi and dislikes Wu Direct-Wealth cycles. Geng's Blade is at You and dislikes Mao Direct-Wealth cycles. Jia can travel through Si, Wu, Chen, Xu, Chou and Wei Wealth cycles without harm, but dislikes You cycles. Bing's Blade is at Wu; Shen, You, Geng, Xin and Chou are harmless, but Zi cycles are disliked. These particular Wealth classifications are retained as supplied.
Generally Yang Blade needs strong self and welcomes something to remove it. The classic says: 'People have ghostly people; things have ghostly things. Meeting them brings disaster; removing them brings fortune.'
Example, the chart of Councillor Ge: Renshen · Renzi · Wuwu · Yimao. Wu's Blade is at Wu. The Yimao hour is welcome because Direct Officer controls and removes it, thereby bringing fortune.
Day Noble
What is Day Noble? It belongs to the Nobleman rules represented by 'Jia and Wu together with Ox and Sheep.' There are only four days: Dingyou, Dinghai, Guisi and Guimao. Punishment, clash, break and harm are most feared. The classic says: 'What is revered is treasured; what is rare is noble. Thus Nobleman fears the three punishments and six harms.'
The noble influence must gather at the day. Cycles fear Void; in cycles and the Grand Year, added conjunctions should not include Kuigang.
The person is pure, humane, virtuous and attractive, without disdain for others.
The preceding punishment and restraint bring poverty and lowliness. Excessive punishment and clash anger Nobleman, turning it into disaster. Examine this carefully.
The hour method resembles Day Noble. Distinguish daytime and nighttime Nobleman: daytime needs daytime Nobleman and night needs nighttime Nobleman.
Verse:
Day Noble's stem and branch share one position;
Void and an Officer-bearing clash are strongly forbidden.
Kindness, broad virtue and much beauty:
combining Wealth and Officer is vainly exalted.
Verse:
Ding days have Pig and Rooster; Gui, Rabbit and Snake.
Punishment, clash, break and harm leave only sighs.
Wealth arriving in combination can establish distinction;
combination established throughout is excellent.
Verse:
Gui and Ding, Snake and Mao, with Pig and Rooster:
Officer suffering punishment or clash must bring disaster.
Pure conduct carries humane virtue;
honor, wealth and rank emerge exceptionally.
Verse:
Day Noble appears as Rabbit and Snake;
a pattern born in Hai or You is still more praiseworthy.
Without punishment, clash or a Void position,
assisting merit serves the imperial household.
Day Virtue has five days: Jiayin, Wuchen, Bingchen, Gengchen and Renxu. Its fortunate factors should be numerous. Punishment, clash, break and harm are forbidden; Officer is disliked and flourishing Wealth hated. Arriving combinations, Void and Kuigang are also listed among the pattern's great taboos.
Day Virtue generally makes a person's nature kind and charitable.
Repeated Day Virtue must give ample fortune, especially in strong-self cycles. If Wealth and Officer arrive, seek a different pattern to avoid extraordinary disaster.
If flourishing qi has already declined and a cycle reaches Kuigang, the text calls death certain.
If fortune has not yet developed and Kuigang arrives, a good original structure must still guard against disaster. Once this is escaped, development can return. The source then gives an obscure closing phrase, literally 'in the end, strength faintly smiles.' This is retained without inventing a missing explanation. One must know the rule.
Verse:
Renxu and Gengchen are Day Virtue palaces;
Jiayin, and Wu and Bing riding Dragon, complete them.
Strong-self cycles give a kindly heart;
much Day Virtue naturally makes fortune abundant.
Verse:
Punishment, clash, break, harm, strong Officer and Wealth,
Void and Kuigang combining are unfavorable.
Restraint and battle bring lonely poverty and great danger;
even if advancement comes, life still ends.
Verse:
Jiayin, Renxu and Gengchen,
with Bing and Wu meeting Chen, are true Day Virtue.
Void is unwelcome and broken Emolument disliked,
as are break, harm, punishment and clash.
Verse:
Bingchen strictly forbids meeting Renchen;
Renxu must guard against Wuxu arriving.
A day seated on Gengchen and Gengxu,
and Jiayin too, must be wary of Gengchen, as the verse reads.
Verse:
Day Virtue dislikes seeing Kuigang;
transformed into a killing luminary, it is hardest to bear.
Repeated appearance in the frame brings illness;
cycles or periods encountering it must bring death.
Verse:
Repeated Day Virtue escapes calamity;
Officer strictly forbids Wealth territory.
Without clash, break, Void or punishment,
it can serve as a beam of the court.
Kuigang has four days: Renchen, Gengxu, Wuxu and Gengchen. Repetition at the day positions must bring fortune.
Strong-self cycles develop fortune in a hundred ways. One encounter with Wealth or Officer brings immediate trouble.
The person is intelligent, powerful in writing and decisive in affairs, but fond of killing.
Wealth and Officer in the Four Pillars, or punishment and Killings, make disaster unpredictable.
If the day stands alone and clashes are numerous, the person must be petty, constantly punished and poor to the bone.
Cycles reaching flourishing Wealth and Officer must also guard against extraordinary disaster.
Verse:
The four Kuigang days stand foremost;
repeated encounters wield great authority.
Gengxu and Gengchen fear Officer's emergence;
Renxu and Renchen meet successive Wealth, as this verse names them.
The person's nature is clever and discerning;
the desire to kill is resolute and unswerving.
Pillars with punishment, clash, break and harm
bring bone-deep poverty and the lash.
Verse:
Wuxu and Gengchen have strongest Killings;
Renchen and Gengxu are called Kuigang.
Only repeated day positions make fortune;
strong self meeting them gives exceptional distinction.
Verse:
A person carrying Kuigang must have a strong nature;
ghosts and spirits fear standing nearby.
If one position meets heavy clash and punishment,
bone-deep poverty is unbearable.
Verse:
Kuigang with repeated matching days in the pillars
contains the expected distinguished qi.
The day master alone meets heavy clash and restraint;
Wealth and Officer exposed give endless fortune, as this closing verse says.
The first verse's Renxu differs from the opening four-day list, and the closing Wealth/Officer claim differs from the earlier prohibitions. Neither is silently harmonized.
Metal Spirit has only three hours: Guiyou, Jisi and Yichou.
It is an influence of destruction and defeat and needs control. Fire territory is best. If the Four Pillars also carry Seven Killings and Yang Blade, this is a truly distinguished person.
Fierce authority employs force. If authority is not concentrated, others can insult it, so it must move with tiger-like harshness. Once the beasts are overawed, its authority and virtue operate.
Yet excessive hardness must break. Without control, gentleness and fierceness cannot assist each other; how could one follow the way of balance? Thus it is said: 'Firmness must be brought to submission and adjusted into harmony; fortune and Emolument then follow in succession.'
Even so, the person has decisive, perceptive talent and an obstinate will that is difficult to tame.
Fire cycles and a Fire frame in the pillars make a distinguished chart; Water territory is feared and brings no fortune.
Verse:
Metal Spirit seen in the Jiawu hour, as this verse reads,
with Killings and Blade present, makes a truly distinguished person.
Fire and Wood cycles develop Wealth and Emolument;
Metal and Water must injure self.
Verse:
Often harsh and violent, yet talented and discerning,
it meets generating Water and immediately becomes poor.
Controlling cycles encountering a Fire frame
give exceptional promotion and a thousand measures of Emolument.
Verse:
Metal Spirit meeting Fire is surely distinguished;
Metal and Water must bring disaster.
Fire territory often gives development,
with exalted office and a wealthy household alike fitting.
Verse:
Metal Spirit in the hour has much distinguished qi;
meeting Yang Blade instead brings balance.
Water cycles give poverty and illness;
Fire's control raises reputation and rank.
Verse:
Guiyou, Jisi and Yichou,
met in the hour, are fortunate influences.
Disdain for others and reliance on talent need control;
Killings and Blade encountered together give true distinction.
The first verse's Jiawu hour is retained separately from the three hours listed above.
