Understand patterns without surrendering your choices

Explore Mingli as a traditional framework for patterns, tendencies and changing circumstances, not a fixed verdict on your life. Return to character, responsibility and choices in the real world.

Boundaries for Mingli study

No fixed verdicts about destiny, fear-based predictions or replacement of real-world decisions.

Do not make absolute predictions or use Mingli to create fear or dependence.

Do not use phases, the Ten Gods or chart patterns to avoid responsibility.

Do not replace real-world judgement about relationships, work, healthcare or money.

Return every reflection to character, responsibility and practical action.

Before you begin

Clarify your purpose before exploring a chart

Begin with a question, not a prediction. Are you studying methods, exploring a chart, reflecting on habits, facing a major decision or responding to fear?

01

Learning the methods

I want to read the sources rather than memorise maxims.

First ask: Am I looking for conditions and reasoning, or a phrase I can apply to people?

Keep in mind: Historical methods need context. An isolated line is not a verdict on modern life.

02

Exploring a chart

I want to examine stems, branches, relationships, patterns and time cycles.

First ask: Can I examine the structure without asking for a verdict of good or bad fortune?

Keep in mind: A chart can open questions but cannot replace decisions about work, relationships, healthcare or money.

03

Reflecting on habits

I want to examine habits, relationship patterns and changing circumstances.

First ask: Can I turn this observation into one small change today?

Keep in mind: A tendency is not an identity label or a reason to dismiss yourself or others.

04

Facing a major decision

My question concerns a relationship, career, health, money or family choice.

First ask: Am I hoping a chart will take responsibility for me?

Keep in mind: The academy does not provide predictions as a substitute for real-world professional judgement.

05

Feeling frightened

A prediction has left me anxious, dependent or afraid to act.

First ask: Is this claim reducing my ability to act responsibly in the real world?

Keep in mind: Fear, dependence and fixed verdicts about a person's life are outside this learning approach.

Four foundations

Patterns, tendencies, methods and character

Study stems and branches, the Ten Gods and chart patterns, classical methods and everyday conduct together. Character and responsibility remain central.

Recognise patterns

Stems and branches

Learn yin and yang, the five phases, ten stems, twelve branches and seasonal relationships as a traditional structural framework.

Yin / yangFive phasesTen stemsTwelve branchesFour seasons

Ask: What seasonal and symbolic relationships does this combination describe?

Reading approach: Start with the foundations, then examine the four pillars without rushing to good or bad fortune.

Boundary: Stems and branches do not determine a person's worth, character or future.

Examine tendencies

Ten Gods and chart patterns

Treat the Ten Gods, patterns, strength and favourable or unfavourable factors as study frameworks, not fixed labels.

Ten GodsPatternsStrengthYongshenJishen

Ask: Which tendencies or relationships might this framework prompt me to examine?

Reading approach: Study relationships and the overall pattern together; never judge someone from a single term.

Boundary: A chart is no excuse for superiority, dismissing others or avoiding responsibility.

Read the methods

Classical traditions

Study Di Tian Sui, San Ming Tong Hui, Yuan Hai Zi Ping and Zi Ping Zhen Quan within ethical and historical boundaries.

Di Tian SuiSan Ming Tong HuiYuan Hai Zi PingZi Ping Zhen Quan

Ask: How did historical authors connect patterns, examples and human circumstances?

Reading approach: Learn terms and examples, consider the historical setting and identify questions useful for reflection.

Boundary: Do not mechanically apply historical examples to modern decisions or use them to frighten people.

Return to conduct

Reflection and character

Understanding circumstances does not mean surrendering to fate. Return to habits, responsibilities and choices.

HabitsStagesCircumstancesResponsibilityCharacter

Ask: What can I change today, and what responsibility can I accept?

Reading approach: Choose one action, record its result and review whether it helped your conduct or relationships.

Boundary: Pause any reading that cannot lead back to responsible real-world action.

Terms and their limits

Terms provide a framework for observation, not a judgement of character. Return from terminology to reflection and action.

Five-phase tendencies

Use symbolic tendencies to reflect, not rank people or assign a fixed destiny.

Ten Gods relationships

Consider relationship structures as prompts for examining how you treat others.

Overall chart patterns

Study the whole pattern without replacing evidence about actual abilities or conduct.

Decade and annual cycles

Study traditional time cycles without treating timing as the sole cause of events.

Mingli source traditions

Study methods, not ready-made verdicts

Texts such as Di Tian Sui and San Ming Tong Hui introduce methods and historical examples. Examine their conditions and historical context instead of mechanically applying old verdicts to modern lives.

滴天髓

How do overall patterns, clarity, direction and yongshen form a traditional framework?

Reading approach: Examine short passages term by term, preserving their conditions and overall context.

Boundary: Do not use an isolated maxim to predict another person's fortune.

三命通会

How do historical examples relate stems, branches, patterns and symbolic stars to human circumstances?

Reading approach: Read by theme and record conditions, exceptions and disputes rather than treating a case as a universal law.

Boundary: Historical social conditions differ from modern life; examples are study material.

渊海子平

How does the Zi Ping tradition organise pillars, the Ten Gods, patterns and time cycles?

Reading approach: Learn basic terms before combinations instead of memorising maxims alone.

Boundary: Examine each maxim in its structural context rather than using it for arbitrary predictions.

子平真诠

How are patterns, yongshen and the conditions affecting them distinguished?

Reading approach: Follow the sequence of reasoning and the conditions for selecting an interpretation.

Boundary: A chart's classification does not measure human worth; conduct and choices remain central.

Four questions for knowing when to stop

Pause when you feel driven to seek certainty

Watch for fear, dependence and fixed judgements taking the place of reflection. Before exploring a chart or text, consider these four questions.

Am I seeking an absolute answer to make a decision for me?

Symbolic observation cannot replace real-world judgement about work, relationships, healthcare or money.

Has a term made me frightened, dependent or dismissive of myself?

Creating fear undermines learning and responsible self-reflection.

Am I using terms to assign a fixed label to another person?

Terminology can prompt reflection, not justify treating others as inferior.

Can this reading lead to one practical action?

If not, pause and return to reading, record-keeping and real responsibilities.
